Today is day 6 of Little Boy Yellow and I now know him well! I listened to the story about 10 times in both English and Castellano the first day. I have also listened while reading the story in Castellano a few times, which I found was invaluable to work out exactly what was being said.
Yesterday I made a list of all the vocab or verb tenses I hadn't known before the story but now do. There were many expressions and phrases that I understood but had never actually used as I was never sure how to use them (like iba). The repetition of the story helps me remember the phrases in context which enables me to adapt them to my own situations.
One month later….
I still remember a lot of the phrases, I listened to it that often! It gives me confidence to use the vocab or phrases as I know the context, if that makes sense.
Having listened to the story so many times, I can still hear the voices, like when you know a song. One of Amy's friends sounds just like the little girl, Daisy, especially when she says, 'a que si?' and it always reminds me of the story!
